HMUN will have a second Priority Registration Deadline on August 30, 2017. HMUN applications are highly competitive and we greatly encourage delegations to apply by this second deadline in order to increase their chances of acceptance. Acceptance decisions and country assignments for all applications received between June 1 and August 30 will be considered together and released in early September.

The Special Committees application is now open! The deadline for the application is September 27, 2017. Individual delegates would apply to HMUN through the Special Committees Application, which can be found once you have logged into our online application database and follow the instructions provided. Please note that even as an individual delegate, you would still need to be accompanied by a faculty advisor.

Conference Venue

All conference events will take place in the Sheraton Boston, the John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center, and the Marriott Copley Place. Continuing with the conference expansion from HMUN 2017, a number of HMUN 2018 committees will take place at the Marriott, providing additional opportunities for delegates from across the world to meet and engage with one another. Expanding beyond the Sheraton will also allow for greater delegate, advisor, and staff comfort during conference.

The Sheraton Boston and the Marriott Copley Place are a short 5-minute walk from one another, and are linked indoors by the Prudential Center and Copley Place shopping malls that include many dining options during conference.

Accepted delegations at HMUN are eligible for discounted hotel room rates. To receive these room rates, accepted delegations can access the Hotel Reservation Form in their MUNbase accounts. The per-night rates are as follows, not including state and local taxes (currently at 14.45%):

  • Single: $215
  • Double: $215
  • Triple: $219
  • Quad: $249

The Tentative Schedule for Harvard Model United Nations 2018 will be posted in early January, 2018. Please note that this will be a tentative schedule designed to give delegates and faculty advisors an idea of what to expect at HMUN. All times and events listed will be subject to change. A more detailed final schedule will be published in the Delegate Handbook, which will be distributed at the start of conference.

Due to the large number of schools interested in HMUN, we will assign no more than two GA delegations or one GA and one EcoSoc delegation to any single school. Schools that apply for two EcoSoc delegations may be assigned one GA delegation instead. Please note that a delegation on the General Assembly may also include seats on the Security Council and Historical Security Council. Positions on the Regional Bodies committees are also assigned as part of the General Assembly country delegations, although the Regional Bodies committees are part of the Economic and Social Council organ.

Country assignments are determined by a variety of factors, including model United Nations experience, number of delegates requested, and country preferences. If you are not assigned one of the countries you requested, it may be to ensure that you receive the number of spots requested.

In some cases, we are not able to assign exactly the number of spots requested. Schools that receive fewer spots than requested but still wishing to bring more delegates are strongly encouraged to apply for our special application committees, which include most of the Specialized Agencies, the NGO Programme, and the Press Corps. Applications for the special application committees will become available on June 7, 2017, through your MUNbase account, under the “Delegation” tab.
