TopiC: Building the Trade Capacity of Developing Worlds

The issue of building trade capacity in developing countries is critical for ensuring their sustainable economic development and integration into the global economy. For many nations in the Global South, limited trade capacity poses significant barriers to economic growth, hindering their ability to diversify economies, increase exports, and improve living standards. The G77, a coalition of developing nations, emphasizes the need for a supportive international framework that enhances the trade capabilities of these countries.

The G77 advocates for international cooperation, emphasizing the importance of technology transfer, capacity-building initiatives, and increased investment in human capital. The committee supports multilateral trade reforms that would provide developing nations with better access to markets and allow them to strengthen their trade-related institutions. Furthermore, the committee calls for the reform of global trade rules to ensure that they are equitable, taking into account the specific needs and challenges of developing countries.

Hi Delegates!

My name is Jake Truncale; I am a sophomore at Harvard College studying Government with a secondary in European History, Politics, and Societies. I am originally from Long Island, New York. I am so excited to serve as your director for G77!

Much like all of you, I competed in MUN in high school and I now compete for Harvard’s competitive MUN team, ICMUN. I also served as an Assistant Director at HNMUN 2024, Harvard’s collegiate conference.

Outside of Model UN, I spend a lot of time on music. I sing with the Harvard Glee Club, play guitar, and play saxophone. I am also quite the theater and opera nerd, so if that applies to any of you, please feel free to discuss.

I cannot wait to meet all of you soon; HMUN 2025 is sure to be a blast! I look forward to witnessing the lively debate and impressive collaboration that I know you are all capable of displaying! In the meantime, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns, we are committed to making this experience the best it can be!

Best regards,

Jake Truncale
